Larch Mountain Salamander (Plethodon larselli), Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington
This specimen is coiled in an attempt to resemble a millipede (many of which are poisonous), a common habit of this species when they are disturbed. Larch Mountain salamanders are strongly associated with rocky substrates in mature and late-successional forests, including forested talus slopes, boulder fields, and rock outcrops.
